What will probably prove to be one of the best ways to date the boxes will be from the version of the Lane logo that is burned into the underside of the lids. Perhaps another easy way to date the boxes will be their size and style. Based on the two dozen boxes I have so far, I have isolated the brand to four versions. I would expect there are other versions and variations I have yet to find. My initial impression is the Four Square version is most likely the newest version followed by the “Lane Script only” and then the other two in an unknown order.
Just today I ordered a book from the Virginia Historical Society about the history of Lane Furniture that may be helpful in shedding some light on my many questions. More to come on the book and my findings from it when it arrives!
Below you will see my first feeble attempt to add photos to this blog…rough I know…
If you have any thoughts about the order in which the logo brands were used, leave a comment. I am beginning to build a “time-line” of the age of the boxes with the limited information I have. More on that later.
