Hello all.
So far, I haven’t seen the shorter version of our boxes prior to 1962.
So far, the latest I have seen a taller version of our boxes is 1950.
So if, I may be closing in on a time when Lane changed the size of the boxes from tall to short (1950-1962) – if they actually did? And, this doesn’t account for the footed, fluted variations – that are always tall. Where to they fit in?
For reference, I am referring to Tall and Short…approximate dimensions…
TALL is 4″H x 9″W x 4 5/16″D
SHORT is 3 3/8″‘H x 9″W x 4 15/16″D
When describing sizes, I have seen some reference these dimension slightly differently probably due to the rounded corners.
So far, it looks like the stamped/branded logo inside the lids changed to just the “Lane” script somewhere between 1962 and 1970. As I have stated before, I think the logo is a better indicator of age than size but this is just a guess at this point.
Another thing I guess we need to consider is that retailers may have purchased the boxes from Lane but took several years to “gift” them away. Thus, the documented time of the recipient receiving the box and the date of manufacture may be off…
Lots of questions…I could use some help.
Until next time…
Chad
Good Luck, Amigo … and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
