New Bottom Label on THF box

Hi all!

As a bit of history to catch you all up…we have found THF boxes from at least 1929 up to 1935. However, they may reach back to around 1925 or before…just no evidence to support this. My working hypothesis is these boxes were made by Peterson Brothers in Chicago (most likely) or Pilliod in Ohio (slightly less likely) and then purchased by Lane for the Girl Graduate Plan that started around 1923-25. In 1935 Lane started making the boxes themselves in the miniatures department of their Altavista, VA factory. The first boxes out of Altavista were TFF versions.

Here’s a THF box:

Most THF boxes have a label on the bottom. These labels can be found at this area of my website: https://www.lanecedarbox.com/copy-of-features. I will be adding the new label (below) that I just found to the website very soon.

In conclusion, THF boxes were distributed by Lane for at least 6 years and during this time I have found they used 5 different bottom labels. I haven’t done a great job of recording which labels were on which boxes with definitive dates. I need to do better with this. I own many of the dated examples so I need to dig in and clarify which labels belong to which dates. Perhaps more to come on this in the future.

For some reason, lots of new finds lately… exciting!

Thanks for following along.

Chad

    • That’s correct. The Lane Girl Graduate Plan started almost exactly 100 years ago. I have solid photographic documentation from 1925 but boxes were being distributed earlier than then. Cool, huh?
